Cesare Zavattini is one of the most complex and multifaceted cultural figures of the 20th century: a writer, a scriptwriter who worked with some of the greatest directors of the time, and also a playwright, director and actor. Always profoundly and humanly rooted in his time, he nevertheless strived to transcend eras and generations with his constant groundbreaking and his extraordinary vision.
